Satellite Phone Overview
Below is a list of all Galapagos cruises that offer a satellite phone and their corresponding departures. On board, a satellite phone will be available on the majority of Galapagos cruises, if not all of them, regardless of the category or comfort. Although it is not intended for use by passengers, it is a common piece of equipment that is essential for safe navigation and is intended for use by crew members. Whether a Galapagos cruise features this type of phone or not, should not be a determing factor, to choose a cruise over another.
Can guests use the satellite phone?
No. The crew members are the only ones who are permitted to use the phone, and it is included in the standard equipment for ensuring safe navigation. It is not available to passengers and cannot be accessed by them. Outgoing calls are not available to onboard guests through this phone. Please keep in mind the Galapagos is a remote location, so if your cruise of choice does not offer an internet wifi connection aboard, and you are cruising through a remote location, you will most likely be fully disconnected. So if you require incoming calls, or to make use of a phone, please consult with your trip advisor for Galapagos cruises that offer an internet connection, to make use of your mobile phone.
Can the satellite phone be used for incoming calls for guests?
The phone is not available for guests to use to receive incoming calls. Fortunately, a Starlink internet connection is becoming increasingly accessible for most Galapagos cruises. Through the use of your mobile phone and the Internet, you will be able to communicate with your family or friends back home. Please check with your trip adivsor if the cruise of your choice features an internet connection, to place internet calls.
