“Fanesca” is a delicious and traditional Ecuadorian stew, made just once a year, around Easter. It features all of the Andean region’s most important natural products, with an additional coastal fusion to enhance the flavors. It is now a dish that has become the symbol of national cuisine: it has 12 grains, like the 12 apostles, and is complemented with piece of dried cod.

Quito, capital of Ecuador, is considered one of the most beautiful cities in Latin America. Surrounded by mountains and volcanoes, this city was founded in 1534 by the Spaniard Sebastián de Benalcazar. There are several theories regarding the origin of its name, the most accepted relates that it comes from the languages tsa'fiki and cha'fiki: "qui" (de quitsa) means means half, and "to" or "tu” means land. Thus, the word “Quito,” or “Quitu,” is translated as: "Earth in the middle of the World".

Quito offers countless attractions of all kinds; hiding between its streets and its people are the wonders that only a city of history and magic can host. In addition, its special urban development and unique location in the middle of the Andes make Quito, the only city of its kind: a great metropolis in a reduced and natural space over the Equator line.Surrounded by beautiful mountains, Quito is the ideal starting point to discover the fantastic environmental scenery that Ecuador possesses. From here, the visitor has the opportunity to choose the destination that he/she likes the most. The capital gives the necessary comforts to prepare trips to the most diverse destinations: towards the north and the south are the landscapes of the mountain range, towards the west are the beautiful beaches of the Route of the Sun, and towards the east the tourist can know the immense tropical forest of the Ecuadorian Amazon.

The luxury vessel Alya was introduced to the Galapagos Islands on 2017. It’s a part of the luxury catamarans that have been taking over the islands, and part of a larger fleet of vessels. The Alya has some amazing features which anyone would love to enjoy, such as a Jacuzzi on board in the large solarium, external and interior bars, and kayaks as part of the offered activities for guests. In this post I will introduce you to what’s in store with Alya, including itineraries and services, for the year 2019. This’ll help you to decide for yourself if the Alya is the right choice for you to cruise the Galapagos.

A Galapagos cruise could very well be one of the most memorable times of your life. This little volcanic archipelago in the middle of nowhere has truly one-of-a-kind wildlife and an incredible history. It's one of those rare places where you get that perfect mix of bizarre, incredible, and 100% unique. Combining an amazing place like the Galapagos Islands with a luxury cruise? It doesn't get any better than that. The tricky part is deciding which cruise to go for. There are a lot of vessels that can take you exploring seemingly prehistoric world, all with their own pros and cons.

Previously, the Ecuadorian government was planning on making travel insurance a requirement for entering mainland Ecuador. That has since been cancelled and you will not need to demonstrate proof of travel insurance to enter Ecuador. Entering the Galapagos, however, is another story. The latest news (as of me writing this post) is that travel insurance will at some point be a requirement, but there is no information regarding when this will be enforced. This is part of a very long series of enforcement dates that have been pushed back. It was supposed to be going into effect as of November 1st, but now we basically just don't know when this will be mandatory.
