Refurbished Overview
Below is a list of all Galapagos cruises that have been refurbished at least once and their corresponding departures. Cruises that have undergone extensive renovations to either their interiors or exteriors, or both, are considered to be "refurbished cruises." This may occur for one of two reasons: either the vessel's proprietors want to incorporate additional elements, such as expanding (adding single cabins), combining, or altering particular portions of the cruise; or the cruise has changed owners, and the theme, colors, or other characteristics require a change in accordance with the preferences of the new cruise owners. A great example would be the Galapagos Horizon, which went through some major renovations and implemented its current name, as it was previously known as Camila.
Do all Galapagos cruises get refurbished?
No. If the proprietors of the Galapagos cruise do not see it necessary to renovate the vessel for any significant alterations in either the interior or outside of the vessel, then routine maintenance will ensure that the cruise continues to function as intended. The cruise management is the one who ultimately decides this matter. The Galapagos Park authorities do require cruises to comply with certain requirements if they want to keep their assigned comfort category. In rare instances, cruises will prefer to decrease the assigned comfort, for example, from luxury to first class, if they don't want to go through a major rehaul to conserve their current comfort status.
Does boarding a refurbished cruise have any benefits?
Certainly. You will feel as though you are aboard a fresh new boat when you board a Galapagos cruise that has undergone recent refurbishment. It feels as though the cruise was given a new coat of paint! This is because, in many instances, routine maintenance just won't cut it! It is usually the case that cruises will go through some kind of refurbishment at some point.
