Galapagos In Numbers
Galapagos In Numbers provides a glimpse of the growing popularity of the Islands, and the rising amount of visits to the the Islands.
The Galapagos Islands have long been among the world’s top attractions, a destination that has grown increasingly popular over the years. With the ease of current media and the connected world we live in, the islands popularity does not show any signs of slowing down, whether for the incredible amount and variety of endemic wildlife or for astounding landscapes at every turn. One way or another the number of tourists visiting the islands show a steady increase in the last 35 years, with an average of 11,000 visitors in 1979 to 180,831 in 2012. Statistics display the islands could be reaching the 200.000 mark by 2015.
Every effort…as small as it may seem will help in the long run to ensure the longevity and conservation of the islands, following guides instructions, respecting marked paths and of course supporting where possible foundations and other institutions looking after the islands well being, after all we have one goal in common; enjoying the islands and having them around for as long as possible.
