The Galapagos Islands are amazing on many levels. The climate is remarkably comfortable for being so close to the equator. The islands themselves were formed by presently-active volcanoes that command respect and truly impress. The ocean and beaches are beautiful. Really, though, it's animals that make the visit unforgettable. The Galapagos Islands are home to loads of endemic species. That means that they're not found anywhere else in the world. The animals here are actually extremely comfortable around humans; they haven't developed a fear of being hunted that animals in other areas have. Let's go over some of the highlights of what awesome animals you can expect to see in the Galapagos.

If you’re a climber that’s visiting Ecuador, the Chimborazo Volcano is one that you can’t miss! The Chimborazo’s claim to fame is that it’s peak is the world’s furthest point from the earth’s center. I know what you’re thinking. Everest is the highest mountain, everyone knows that. That’s partly true – measured from sea level, Everest is the highest mountain… but it’s not the closest to the sun. This is because the shape of the earth isn’t a perfect sphere. It actually bulges towards the middle (like many of us do). This means that the top of the Chimborazo is well over a mile further away from the earth’s center than Mount Everest! You literally will not find a point higher than the peak of the Chimborazo volcano.

There is nothing that I love more than exploring the rainforest in South America. I've done it in several different countries, and it is never a letdown for the adventurous. I've chased caiman, caught piranhas, slept in hammocks and tripped over anacondas. Those were some of the happiest moments in my life. Most people, though, are probably looking for something a little... milder. If you want to explore the Amazon rainforest with more comfort (while not missing out on nature), then a river cruise in Ecuador is probably exactly what you're looking for.
